Objectivos da disciplina

General Objectives

The overall objective of this CU is to teach foundational drawing, composition, visual perception, modeling and craftmanship skills.

This CU will task the students to learn accurate capturing on 2d and 3d media the visual information sensed visually through direct observation. Students will be trained to accurately read scale, proportion, feature details, composition, and colour of 3D objects and understand how altering these factors indivusally or in combination impacts the product communication.

The theoretical underpinning of this CU will be shape coding, semantics and colour theory.

Design projects will train students to 1> accurately capture visual information and draw everyday objects 2> explore 3D representation through solid modeling manupulating scale, proportion and detailing 3> read colour information and understand the impact of colour on product communication.

Expected Outcomes

At the end of the CU students are expected to be skilled in analytical drawing techniques, solid modeling techniques, colour perception/manupulation, composition, detailing, and presentation/communication strategies.

Critérios de avaliação

General Evaluation Structure:

This subject will follow the Evaluation Model 'C' according to the UMa evaluation regulations. 
The course will consist of 2 main evaluation components: continous evaluation/studio participation (20%) and  design projects/practical output- upto 3 projects (80%).
Being a TP/PL CU, students are expected to observe lab demonstrations of tools and techniques and evidence application of these inputs through constant development of their design projects. All theoretical discussions will be based as classroom demonstrations/discussions. Students are expected to proactively engage / comment / observe (continous component). 
During the Design Projects (practical output component), the students are expected to present the progress in the project developement during PL classes. Engaging the teacher in studio discussions on their project challenges/explorations/strategies will impact the final project evaluation. In case a project has multiple evaluation tollgates, each evaluation stage will carry a weightage with respect to the final project marking. Final project submission will be in the form of studio presentations.
Students will be judged on drawing, composition, perception, modeling and craftmanship skills. Communication and presentation skills will also impact the project evaluation. 

The Evaluation Model:

  1. Continous Evaluation= 20% (attendance, +participation+ proactive attitude). This component cannot be recovered through recurso or melhoria.
  2. Design Projects (upto 4) = 80% (upto 6 evaluation stages)


Working students Policy: 

Workers Students are subject to a mandatory minimum attendance of atleast 50% of classes. Subject to them fulfilling the attendance requirement working students are elgible to take the recurso or the melhoria exam which will be worth 30% weightage while calculating the final total grade obtained at the CU conclusion. The continous evaluation components cannot be recovered.

Melhoria Exam Policy:

For those students who pass the subject but want to improve their score, they can take a melhoria exam. Melhoria exam will consist of a design project, and this project will hold a 30% evaluation weitage while calculating the final evaluation of the CU.

Recurso Exam Policy: 

Only those regular students obtaining less than 10 as the average of the continous and design project components at the conclusion of the CU and take the recurso exam. Recurso exam will consist of a design project worth 30% evaluation weightage in the final evaluation of the CU.

Attendance Policy:

A maximum of 8 absences are allowed for regular students. Working students have to maintain a 50% attendance. Absence excused for sick leaves are to be accompanied by a doctor's certificate submitted to the academic office. Only those students who meet the subject minimum attendance criteria will be allowed to take the melhoria / recurso exams.

3> line drawing techniques : horizontal, vertical, inclined lines.

4> geometric forms and planes: cube form composition, planar shapes, stripes, & architectonic composition.

5> isometric and Orthogrpahic drawing: introduction to foundation theory and technique.

6> circles and ellipses: drawing curves.

7> complex forms: orthographic / isometric drawing representation of composite geometric forms.

8> object drawing: orthographic / isometric drawing of handheld artifacts.

9> introduction shape, form, & shape coding theory.

10> visual benchmarking techniques for product detailing: semantic moodboards and character theory. 

11> Analog solid modeling: rapid prototyping techniques with EPS foam.

12> introduction to product detailing: detail design techniques with EPS foam.

13> product visualisation: product represenatation through analytical drawing of product details, geometry, composition captured from 3D solid models.

14>  technical representation: capturing product intrinsic features by attributing dimensions & technical drawing techniques.

15> introduction to colour theory.

16> theoretical models of chromatic perception.   

17> psychology of colours: inter-sensory relationship with conition & emotion.

18> psycho-sensorial moodbaord construction techniques.

19> character attribution to colour: visual benchmarking of relationship between character and colour theory.
