Course Information

Course Objectivs

The Students should acquire the following pedagogical skills:

-Scientific Method fundamentals applied to Natural Sciences;

-Main concepts, principles, laws and theories pertaining to Natural Sciences;

-Observe and describe events intrinsic to Natural Sciences, manipulate objects, and identify common patterns in nature;

-Problem formulation (arising from experimental activities,  learning targets, taking into consideration student's previous concepts, the state-of-the-art knowledge, the aimed syllabus targets, as well as the  particularities, advantages and disadvantages referring to each proposed alternative solution or perspective);

-Legal and ethical teacher's liabilities;

-Animal Right employed in study and research;

-Health and Safety regulations applied to lab environment;

-Develop social skills to promote positive relationship wihtin the community.

Evaluation Criteria

The evaluation shall be based on the presentation of seminars by groups consisting of 2 or 3 students, as well as on an Intermidiary Exam.

Seminar topics will be proposed in common agreement between faculty and students, considering aspects addressed by the syllabus;

  • The evaluation will be based on student's performance at seminar?s presentation, depending on the ability of interpretation, synthesis and preparation of the syllabus (50%); clarity in work presentation (25%); originality (10%), accuracy in language usage (15%);
  • The grade accrued at the seminars cannot be possibly retrieved at extraordinary / special period of exams;
  • The dead-line to hand in all written elements in respect to seminars will be agreed with the students.

The groups of students who do not obtain the minimum score of 15 values in the seminar evaluation, must submit to an Intermidiary Exam being the final mean calculated according to the weighted formula: (Note of the seminar x 2) + (1 x Note of the Intermidiary Exam)/3
