Course Information

Course Objectivs

1 Stimulate the ability to interpret statistical information, whether of a general nature that appears in the media or the more specific of the respective area.

2 Provide the learning of some simple techniques used in statistical inference through problem resolution using confidence intervals, hypothesis testing and models.

3 Deal with situations where the use of parametric methods is not adequate; use non-parametric statistics.

4 Perspectives of statistics as a science and respective implications in addressing the issues of everyday life.

5 Develop the ability to obtain, interpret and communicate statistical results effectively.

6 Foster critical thinking.

Evaluation Criteria

Classification Type: Quantitative (0-20)
Evaluation Methodology: The lectures are mostly expository (using the computer and the projector) although students may intervene to post their doubts . The theoretical/practical classes are designed for students to solve the proposed exercises. Some of the exercises are solved using the computer. As far as possible, taking into account the number of students, there is an individual supervision followed by a general explanation. M3 ? The evaluation in this UC is constituted by two tests, each one with a weight of 50%. In case of failure, there is an exam, which allows the recovery of the evaluation of one or two tests.
