Course Information

Course Objectivs


1. Understand the importance of animal diversity and the contribution of taxonomy
2. Understand and apply the basic taxonomic concepts
3. Analyze the importance of intra-and interspecific variation
4. Interpret the various species concepts and their application in taxonomy
5. Compare the advantages and disadvantages of the various applicable techniques in taxonomy
6. Understanding the fundamentals of taxonomic classification and phylogenetic analyses
7. Recognize the role, organization and importance of biological collections
8. Compare the different types of taxonomic literature

Skills and competences

1. Observe, record, describe, compare, and make inferences in a scientific manner
