Course Information

Course Objectivs

The central aim of the course is to provide the students with theoretical, practical and laboratorial competences that allow them to understand, describe, explain and teach the basic and intermediate contents of the gymnastics. At the end of the semester, students should be able to:

1. Identify the different disciplines and demonstrate an understanding of the history, institutions, regulations, rules, general faults and penalties, and current research

2. Explore and apply biomechanical principles to increase sports performance

3. Perform the gymnastic elements, identify the errors and present appropriate strategies to their correction

4. Provide appropriate feedback to colleagues on the technical execution of the various gymnastic elements

5. Perform manual guidance and know the practical implications of security rules

6. Recognize in warm-up and physical preparation the central items for a safe gymnastic participation

7. Demonstrate an understanding and practical ability to teach

Evaluation Criteria

1. Theoretical, theoretical-practical and laboratory (gymnasium) teaching

2. Slides, video-images and practical exemplification are used to better clarify the theoretical items

3. The regular presence of the students in the classes and an active participation in the form of individual/small groups discussion are stimulated

4. Readings and preparation of the specific items of the syllabus are strongly suggested before the class

5. The level of knowledge of the students is evaluated through one written test (50%) and two practical tests, one of Trampolines (25%) and the other of Men/Women?s Artistic Gymnastics (25%)

6. A bonus of 10% can be awarded by the student according to the following factors: punctuality, participation in the class, evidence of readings and preparation, sharing of ideas with the Professor and colleagues, critical evaluation of the suggested readings and extra training
