Course Information

Course Objectivs

The program objectives for Intervention in Sport (ID) disciplines I and II, are designed to provide the students a training to enable them to assess, prescribe and programme exercise, targeting young and adult populations. More specifically, with the ID II - SPE, it is intended that the future licensee get skills, requiring: 1) The administration of evaluation tests of physical fitness; 2) The design, prescription and implementation of individual or group programs considering the results of the physical fitness tests; 3) The advice to program participants in need of behavioural and lifestyle changes; 4) In training component carried out in a gym or similar institution, it is intended that the student observe and experience the greatest number of activities offered in the gym in a work environment in its different aspects.

Evaluation Criteria

1. In the theoretical-practical sessions is used the expository method, using additionally the projection of slides, as well as the presentation and discussion of program themes.

2. In the sessions of laboratory practice are used instruments and analytical techniques that allow students to have a closer and more real knowledge of some of the conditions studied.

3. In training activities, students experience multiple activities in a real context, under the guidance of a tutor in the institution and a mentor of the University, meeting the objectives proposed for the discipline.

4. For a student to successfully pass the course, must get cumulatively the following conditions: I) Make the frequency (25%) and obtain a minimum of 9.5; II) have the requisite number (two-thirds) attendance in practical classes; III) to participate effectively in the training activities, deliver and present their report (40% + 25%); and IV) delivery of a written work (10%).

2. Evaluation of muscular strength and endurance.

3. Evaluation of body composition.

4. Evaluation of flexibility.

5. Evaluation and balance improvement programs.

6. Prescription of exercise for the development of cardiorespiratory fitness.

7. Prescription of exercise for developing muscle strength and endurance.

8. Exercise Prescription aimed at weight control and changes in body composition.

9. Exercise Prescription for flexibility.

10. Techniques of counselling and behavioural modification, aimed at an adhesion of the individual to exercise programs.

11. Environmental considerations. Exercise in cold, heat and altitude, respectively.

12. Training practice in a gym or similar institution, experiencing, on the one hand, the different valences and activities that characterize the host institution, and on the other, trying to put into practice the knowledge acquired throughout the course.
