Biographical Notes

I am a Clinical and Health Psychologist with a PhD in Psychology from the University of Coimbra (2020); an invited Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Madeira, where I also serve as the Director of the Master's Degree in Clinical, Health, and Well-being Psychology; and an Integrated Researcher at Madeira NLINCS. I supervise Master's and Doctoral students in various fields, including Clinical, Health, and Well-being Psychology, Neuropsychology, Computer Engineering, and Interactive Media Design.

In 2015, I received a doctoral scholarship from ARDITI, with the host institution M-ITI/LARSyS, where I participated in the European project RehabNet (303891 FP7-PEOPLE-2011). From 2020 to 2022, as a post-doctoral researcher, I coordinated the BRaNT project (PTDC/CCI-COM/31046/2017). In 2021, a project where I was co-PI was approved for funding by FCT: Adaptive Virtual Reality for coping with involuntary early gestational loss (EXPL/CCI-INF/0298/2021). In 2025, I was appointed Science Communication Coordinator for COST ACTION 24123 (neuroXRehab).

My research is primarily in the area of interactive technologies for neurorehabilitation and mental health and has been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, mostly Q1, such as the International Journal of Clinical and Health Psychology, Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation, Frontiers in Psychology, Frontiers in Neurology, Journal of Medical Internet Research, Virtual Reality, and Games for Health. My research work has been recognized with 9 awards, including second place in the early career award from the International Society for Virtual Rehabilitation and honorable mentions for Best Student Paper at ICDVRAT in 2014 and 2016. Recently, I became a Member of the Advisory Board of the International Journal of Clinical and Health Psychology.

As a professor, since 2010, I have taught more than 20 different courses, predominantly in the field of Psychology.
