Biographical Notes

Helena Tomás graduated in Chemical Engineering/Bioengineering from IST in Lisbon, Portugal, and holds a PhD in Technological Chemistry/Biomaterials from the University of Lisbon, completed in 1996. She is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Madeira (UMa) and a senior researcher at CQM ? Madeira Chemistry Research Centre. At UMa, she has held several positions, including President of the Pedagogical Council, Coordinator of the Department of Chemistry, and Director of the Master?s Programme in Applied Biochemistry.
Her current research focuses mainly on the development of nanogels and hybrid nanomaterials based on dendrimers for biomedical applications (drug/gene delivery and tissue regeneration). She served as the Portuguese Representative in the COST Actions TD0802: Dendrimers in Biomedical Applications and COST CA17140 NANO2CLINIC ? Nanomedicine for Cancer, both funded by the European Union. She is the author/co-author of more than 86 scientific papers and 4 book chapters (WoS h-index = 39, total citations > 5800).
