Overall objectives:

1 - This course aims to explore the many directions that design has taken since the last decades of the twentieth century.
2 - The main objective is to confront students with the multidisciplinary character that design embraces nowadays, as well as to address the issues that are emerging in contemporary design thinking.
3 - Perceive the ways, methods and importance of the discipline within contemporary everyday life.
4 - Study the paradigmatic changes in designing and producing. To notice how Design as became an important strategic agent in the public sectors and in the cultural scene, emerging as a cultural driver in the XXI century.
5 - The course also aims to publicize the new thinkers, designers, sectors and fields/sectors of action, new communication and intervention design experiences . We pretend to establish a contemporary hermeneutic of discipline.

Syllabus:

1 - 1 - Brief analysis of the main thinkers and movements that emerge in the last decade of the XX century;
2 - 2 - The design culture or the role of the Design in culture;
3 - 3 - Design as a transversal agent in nowadays life. New fields of action; Service design; and Information design;
4 - 4- The globalization and the project. Think national, produce global; Design in the world: communication, public, cultural and economic impact;
5 - 5 - The social innovation and sustainable design, the XXI big trend of design.
6 - 6 - Design and creative industries.

Assesssment methods and criteria:

Classification Type: Quantitativa (0-20)

Evaluation Methodology:
Expositive methodology in the theoretical part of the UC. Dialogical method in the TP part of the course, using case-studies, literature analises and discussions around the contents, principals and maps. The evaluation is continuous both in T as well as in TP. Considering attendance of at least 75% of the total lessons, discussions and declare interest in the realization of the assignments that could be in group or by written tests. previously agreed with the students, knowing that none can have a weight of more than 50% same rules applies also for working-students.
