Overall objectives:

1 - To know the fundamentals and logic of human biochemistry.
2 - To understand that biochemistry is the study of life at the molecular level and that life is a biochemical phenomenon.
3 - To know the chemical structure of molecules and biomolecules, correlating them with the biological and physiological functions they perform.
4 - To understand the organization and characteristics of cellular metabolism.
5 - To understand the laws of biophysics in relation to the human body.
6 - To understand the principles of biophysics applied to health.

Syllabus:

1 - Fundamentals of Biochemistry: structural, functional and genetic. Biochemical buffer and biochemistry systems.
2 - Structure, composition and function of biomolecules: Proteins; Enzymes; Glícidos; Lipids; Vitamins and coenzymes; Nucleic acids.
3 - Organization and specific functions of cellular metabolismo.
4 - Understand the application of mechanics; thermodynamics and nuclear atomic physics in the field of health.
5 - Understand the application of waves and optics in health.
6 - Understand the application of electricity and magnetism to health.

Assesssment methods and criteria:

Classification Type: Quantitativa (0-20)

Evaluation Methodology:
It will be used the expository methodology complemented with the resolution of practical exercises. Opportunities for dialogue in the classroom will be created with the students in order to clarify and deepen some theme. Methodology of quantitative evaluation (0-20), according to the evaluation model A of UMa students' learning. Assessment Element for Biochemistry: written test that will have a weight of 50% for the final classification of Curricular Unit. Elements of evaluation for Biophysics: two mini-tests, each one having a weighting of 25% for the final classification of the Curricular Unit. The minimum classification for approval to each of the elements will be 9,5 values. Any of the elements can be recovered at the appeal/improvement period or in a special time if the student's status so permits.
