Overall objectives:

1 - Awaken the interest in the study of political phenomena, in the historical and theoretical perspective;
2 - Identify and approach some principle issues of History of Political Ideas (the periods of the 18th and 20th centuries) in the occidental world and provide the students with the knowledge of the two main trends of political thoughts;
3 - Define and illustrate the importance of the historical knowledge in the analysis and the comprehension of the present and its function as an essential element in the framework of development, entrepreneurship and social competitivities.

1 - Fondamentals of the Political Thoughts and of the Modern States.
2 - The 19th Century : the State-Nation and the new dimension in Politics
3 - The 20th Century: the new syntheses of the political thought
4 - The Political Ideas in Portugal (19th and 20th Centuries) : theories and practices
5 - The Political Ideas in the opening of the 21st century
