Overall objectives:

1 - Critically recognize the main historical and conceptual references of adult education and training;
2 - Understand lifelong learning as a key to strengthening the competitiveness of Europe and its regions, as well as improving employability and adaptability to the work environment;
3 - Describe the main characteristics of today's society, at a scientific, technological, social, political, economic, demographic and cultural level, which justify adult education and training;
4 - Promote active citizenship and the participation of adults in the community, giving them a sense of belonging.

Syllabus:

1 - The evolution of adult education: historical and conceptual references, and guidelines for the future.
2 - From the concept of Continuing Education to the concept of Lifelong Learning.
3 - Adult education in Europe and Portugal: from the Lisbon Memorandum (2000) to the Next Generation EU instrument.
4 - The contribution of the social partners to adult education and training systems: capacity building, empowerment processes and knowledge co-creation in practice.
5 - Dynamic economic growth, by LLL, and the strengthening of social cohesion.
6 - Lifelong learning as a policy for the development of citizenship, participation, social cohesion, and employment.
7 - The LLL and learning communities: the socio-community regulation of education.

Classification Type: Quantitativa (0-20)

Evaluation Methodology:
Pedagogical strategies to be developed favor as global assumptions of methodological guidance to create conditions for active participation of students, according to principles of meaningful learning, investing is to stimulate creativity and enhancement of their critical faculties. Regarding the assessment of learning, the following criteria will be used: group work and respective presentation. Approval in the curricular unit will correspond to a grade equal to or greater than 10 (ten) values, resulting from the arithmetic average of two partial grades: group work (50%) and respective oral presentation of the group work (50%).
