Overall objectives:

1 - To promote the acquisition and development of didactical knowledge concerning the teaching of Athletics, Gymnastics, Swimming and Rhythmic/Dance Expressive Activities in the Physical Education context
2 - To contribute for the development of a critical self-analysis attitude based on variables related with the study of pedagogical efficacy
3 - To provide students the possibility to achieve the knowledge for planning a Didactical Unit, using contents of the Athletics, Gymnastics, Swimming and Rhythmic/Dance Expressive Activities
4 - To provide the experience of a practical dimension of pedagogical intervention in view of the development of professional skills within the teaching of Athletics, Gymnastics, Swimming and Rhythmic/Dance Expressive Activities
5 - To provide the students with the knowledge to give a special emphasis to the appreciation of human and cultural dimension of sport, developing sportsmanship and an enthusiastic participation.

Syllabus:

1 - Give background to Athletics, Gymnastics, Swimming and the Rhythmic/Dance Expressive Activities in the Educational environment (primary and secondary education grades)
2 - The teaching-learning of these sport activities in relation to:
2.1 - História e influências sociológicas que condicionaram a sua atual expressão;
2.2 - Rules and safety tips in the activities
2.3 - Sport facilities, equipment and instruments to use/adapt
2.4 - Key variables in the teaching learning process
3 - Monothematic and polythematic Didactic Unit ? advantages and disadvantages Give background for different levels of education and aims to achieve
4 - Analysis of practical situations in different contexts

Assesssment methods and criteria:

Classification Type: Quantitativa (0-20)

Evaluation Methodology:
Teaching methodologies (including evaluation): Each of the four modules (Athletics, Gymnastics, Swimming and the Rhythmic/Dance Expressive Activities) the contents are covered in theoretical, theoretical practical and laboratory practice sessions, and with the possibility of intervention, discussion and clarification of doubts. The development of research and further reading on the teaching of sports activities, as well as the realization of plans and reports of pedagogic practice are encouraged. The participation of students in theoretical and practical classes and laboratory practices through inquiry and application of knowledge and skills of teaching is valued, so a minimum of 75% attendance is required.
