Overall objectives:

1.1 - Introduce the problematic of touristic developmen
1.2 - Identify the reasons behind the growing importance of cultural tourism as an expression of global trends.
2.1 - Highlight the role of culture in the processes of representation, preservation and integration of touristic products
2.2 - Foment the theoretical basis for the attribution of meaning to texts, events, problems, artifacts in specific cultural contexts
3.1. - Promote the conception of cultural touristic visits framed in the History of Portugal and Madeira, associated with the development of circuits with incidence in the political-social and religious components
4.1. - Identify how literature propitiates the development of literary tourism
4.2 - Reflect upon the theoretical contributions of geopoetry, geocritic and ecocritic in the implementation of tourism
4.3. - Contribute to the inventory of Madeira's literary landscapes, seeing the constitution of a Turistic-literary Atlas

Syllabus:

1 - 1st Module
1.1 - Basic notions of turism. Turism as a multidisciplinary phenomena and the manifestation of globalization processes and sociological and economical tendencies at the moment. Key Markets and essential niches in the context of periphery and insularity
1.2 - Key motivations and the experience of Tourism. The 4 E's Model and Experiences in the scope of Cultural Tourism
1.3 - Cultural Tourism and the diversification of tourism offer in the scope of Macaronésia
1.4 - Brief introduction to research methods in tourism. Qualitative approaches. Quantitative approaches. Process and organization of key steps in a process of collecting and processing data in research in tourism. Case study.

Evaluation Methodology:
The education, which will involve a typology of theoretical lessons, theoretical-practical and seminar requires a cooperative attitude in the construction of knowledge by students. The teacher's role will, therefore, lead the student on the path to acquisition and discovery through research, readings and their systematization. A scientific project is evaluated through a relevant topic of the CU (course unit) (70%), and the competence of intervention and critical reflection in class is assessed through brief presentations, critical reflection of texts and their arguments , the development of solutions and creative projects under the Cultural Tourism Management (20%), and presence in class (10%).
