Biographical Notes

Élvio Rubio Gouveia (ERG) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Education and Sport at the University of Madeira. He is an integrated member of the Interactive Technologies Institute (Robotics and Engineering Systems Laboratory) and collaborates with the Interdisciplinary Centre for the Study of Human Performance at the University of Lisbon.
He is also an associate member of the Swiss Centre of Expertise in Life Course Research (LIVES), the LIVES Working Group on Lifespan Dynamics, and the Lifespan Developmental Psychology Research Group. In addition, he collaborates with the Centre for the Interdisciplinary Study of Gerontology and Vulnerability (CIGEV) at the University of Geneva.
ERG holds a PhD in Sports Sciences, as well as bachelor?s and master?s degrees in Physical Education and Sport, all from the University of Madeira.
His scientific activity focuses on three main areas:
? Healthy ageing: development of multidisciplinary approaches addressing determinants of health and well-being in older adults;
? Sports training: assessment of physical performance and physiological responses in training and competition;
? Assistive technologies: design and testing of assistive, adaptive, and rehabilitative devices, within the Interactive Technologies Institute, where he serves as Principal Investigator.
ERG has authored more than 200 articles published in international, peer-reviewed scientific journals.
