Biographical Notes

João Rodrigues is, since 2006 the Director of CQM-Centro de Química da Madeira/Madeira Chemistry Research Centre, a National Research Laboratory (FCT?UID674) hosted by University of Madeira, Madeira Island, Portugal. In August 2018, he was nominated invited member of the international board of 111 Project - Advanced Manufacturing Technology and Scientific Innovation for Fiber Materials, from the State Key Laboratory for Modification of Chemical Fibers and Polymer Materials (SKLFPM), Donghua University, Shanghai, China. In June 2018, he was invited to integrate the Steering Committee of the Portugal-China Joint Innovation Centre for Advanced Materials (PCJICAM). Since 2017, he belongs to the Scientific Board of Exact Sciences and Engineering, of the Portuguese National Science Foundation (FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia). In the same year (June 2017), he was appointed as Adjunct Professor at School of Materials Science and Engineering/Center for Nano Energy Materials, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi?an, China and was one of the founder members of the International Dendritic and Hyperbranched Polymer Application Innovation Center sponsored by Weihai CY Dendrimer Technology Co., Ltd., China. Since 2013, he belongs to the General Council of the University of Madeira.

At the University of Madeira, he is responsible for the areas of inorganic and organometallic chemistry, nanochemistry, and nanomaterials. His primary research interests are based on the design, synthesis, and characterization of molecular materials namely, dendrimers/metallodendrimers, molecular wires, composites, nanoparticles and polymers for optoelectronics and biomedical applications (e.g., emerging and infectious diseases and oncology).
