Master's Degree in Education - Pedagogical Innovation

The cycle of studies of the master's degree in Education Sciences – Pedagogical Innovation is comprised of 4 semesters (2 academic years). Those who successfully obtain 120 ECTS are awarded the title.
This degree is based on the active nature of learning and adopts a critical view regarding school. It aims to promote innovation in education by reflecting on what will be the schools of the future: The revision of the history of education as a series of paradigms, a critical discussion on new technologies and their usage in new learning contexts, in order to develop a strong concept of pedagogical innovation.
Thus, the Master's Degree in Education Sciences – Pedagogical Innovation seeks to: train skilled professionals to be capable of intervening inside and outside schools, as true active agents of change; promote the development of alternative pedagogical practices; encourage autonomy and professionalism within the teaching sector through the awareness of the deep connections between society and school, and through an absolute non neutrality of curriculum; develop the understanding of learning environments created by emerging digital technologies; develop generic and specific skills (instrumental, interpersonal and systemic), which allow autonomous lifelong learning.
In Portugal, this cycle of studies is automatically recognized for career progression purposes of all education groups of pre-school, 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles of basic and secondary education, by letter from the directorate-general of the School Administration.

Career Opportunities and Employability

Graduates will have developed the needed skills to analyse and organize innovating learning contexts either in formal or informal environments; carry out duties as internship mentors and cooperating teachers of pedagogical practices.

Candidates

This master’s degree is designed for teachers or holders of an undergraduate degree in the field of Educational Sciences; holders of an undergraduate degree or legal equivalent; holders of an international higher academic degree, recognized as meeting the objectives of an Undergraduate degree; holders of school, scientific or professional curriculum recognized by head of this cycle of studies, attesting to the ability to the conclusion of the degree.
