Overall objectives:

1 - To deepen the epistemological foundations of literature for childhood;
2 - To know some aspects of the historical evolution of children's literature in Portugal and Western literature;
3 - Identify the main genres for children and the new trends in this 'corpu's;
4 - To be able to characterize the editorial panorama and, especially, the children's books of contemporary authors;
5 - To know the panorama of the literature for the lusófona childhood and its characteristics;
6 - To acquire methodological skills to promote reading for children;
7 - To be able to evaluate and analyse a literary text for children and promote their reading among children.

2 - The instructional-educational literature in the 19th and 20th century in Portugal.
3 - The innovative and distinctive features of contemporary Portuguese and foreign literature: trends, themes, characters and spaces.
4 - The world of the book today: narrative, poetry, illustrated album: positive changes and problematic aspects.

Assesssment methods and criteria:

Classification Type: Quantitativa (0-20)

Evaluation Methodology:
Debate of the program, reading aloud passages with projection of images and illustrations; organization of discussion moments on topics of interest to students. During the classes, all subjects and studies of the works and bibliography subject to evaluation will not be focused but the students should complement the knowledge of the most important arguments and concepts by the autonomous study. It will be presented themes, authors and books that will not be directly object of evaluation but whose knowledge allows the development of the ability to analyse, evaluate and choose books in class context. In the course, the teacher can use ICT for communication with the students, sharing of documents and the constitution of 1 discussion forum. During the semester, proposals and initiatives will be communicated to complement the course, for example seminars, conferences. Evaluation (including self-assessment) and weighting: participation attendance (20%) critical review (30%) critical essay
