Overall objectives:

1. - - problematize the notion of "insularity" and that of "insular society". - reflect on the particularities of each island community (geography, natural resources, history, origins of populations, links and mobilities) - intensify contact with working tools and various materials to support the subject matters under research. - acquire competences likely to be applied to the specific design of research projects in the corresponding area of study.

Syllabus:

1. - Module A Social Studies and Culture I - Configurations of insular space over the centuries in the Western Culture A - Mythical, legendary and utopian islands. B - Real islands and their representations. C - Consciousness of Insularity. II - Redesigning cultural maps: the floating ports A - The Atlantic consciousness. B - The islands of Macaronesia: the Canary Islands, Madeira, the Azores and Cape Verde. III - The outermost regions of the European Union IV - Islands travel (viewing and commentary on documentaries): Isolation, imagery, tensions and blending (ethnicities, customs, religions and languages)
2. - Module B Intercultural Studies and Literature I - Island (s) and Desolation: writing of disenchantment II - Island and Remembrance: cartography of affections III - Island (s) and Emigration? Travel and Utopia IV - Island (s) and Overcoming? Awareness and Affirmation
