Overall objectives:

1 - This curricular unit complements Nanochemistry I and will provide the student with the necessary knowledge for preparing and functionalizing polymeric nanoparticles, including dendrimers, nanogels, and nanocapsules.
2 - Additionally, it should enable the student to explore the opportunities that supramolecular chemistry offers for the preparation of nanomaterials and bioinspired materials.
3 - The student should be able to acquire knowledge of organic and organometallic synthesis and the bases for manipulating nanomaterials in an inert atmosphere and vacuum.
4 - The student should also have a comprehensive view of the applications of nanomaterials and a perspective on future challenges in the area.
5 - The students should also develop team spirit, critical thinking, and communication ability.
6 - Part of the knowledge acquired in this course will be explored in the Laboratory of Nanochemistry and Nanomaterials II operating in the same semester.


1 - Chapter 1 - Organic and organometallic synthesis - Security in the lab, main reactions for the preparation of polymers and dendrimers;
2 - Chapter 2-Polymers and dendrimers as nanomaterials- nomenclature, synthesis, leading families and applications;
3 - Chapter 3 - Supramolecular chemistry - Principles, nature of supramolecular interactions, the effect of shape, self-assembly, solid-state;
4 - Chapter 4 - Molecular and nanoscale devices (e.g., motors, photochemical systems, muscles, nanosensors), molecular wires, rectifiers and switches, self-assembled monolayers, nanogels, nanocapsules (e.g., micelles and vesicles);
5 - Chapter 5 - Biomimetic Chemistry and bioinspired materials - synthesis and applications;
6 - Chapter 6 - Applications of nanomaterials (e.g., nanoelectronic, nanocatalysis, environment, renewable energy);
7 - Chapter 7 - Recent advances and future challenges.

Assesssment methods and criteria:

Evaluation Methodology:
This curricular unit has 64 hours of contact between the teacher and the students, divided into 32 hours for theory and 32 hours for theoretical-practical lessons. The lectures will be given with the help of audiovisual media and a blackboard, with the teacher maintaining a permanent dialogue (asking and answering questions) with the students. The material used for lectures and exercises will be made available to students through the course web page. The theoretical-practical classes will be devoted to problem-solving, analysis, and discussion of scientific papers. The evaluation of the curricular unit consists of: a) 1 written test (50% weight; minimum score of 9.5); b) 1 oral presentation of a scientific article (20% weight); c) 1 monography about one specific topic within the scientific area written in the form of a scientific paper (30% weight).
