Overall objectives:

1 - Know the most used computer tools in data and information processing with emphasis on their functionalities and application areas. Specifically have knowledge of the main characteristics and potential of Microsoft Word and Excel and of relational databases as well as Microsoft Access in its multiple functions.

Syllabus:

1 - General History of Computing, the Internet, the Web and ICT;
2 - Informatics and large areas of ICT;
3 - Introduction to Word Processing;
4 - Basic Word processing tools - Microsoft Word;
4.1 - Inserting fields, headers, footers, legends, bookmarks and indexes;
4.2 - Letters and mailings, macro's: automation of tasks and creation of databases for the creation of mailing lists;
4.3 - Document protection;
4.4 - Information sharing between applications;
5 - Spreadsheet Introduction;
5.1 - Potentials, structure and working environment of the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet program;
5.2 - Basic tasks in the spreadsheet;
5.3 - Operations with worksheets;
5.4 - Introduction of simple formulas in the spreadsheet;
5.5 - Excel functions;
5.6 - Creating and editing command macros;
5.7 - Graphics elaboration and manipulation;
5.8 - Elaboration and manipulation of lists or data tables;
5.9 - Elaboration and manipulation of dynamic tables and graphs;
5.10 - Integration of tables and graphs elaborated in the spreadsheet in the word processor;
6 - Introduction to database systems;
6.1 - Basic concepts related to databases;
6.2 - The relational database model;
6.3 - Microsoft Access database management program;
6.4 - Creating and manipulating tables in Microsoft Access;
6.5 - Creating and manipulating queries in Microsoft Access;
6.6 - Forms creation and manipulation processes;
6.7 - Report creation and manipulation processes.
