Overall objectives:
1 - Updating and improving knowledge of classical culture.
2 - Identify and analyse the main elements and moments of classical reception, from antiquity to the present day.
3 - Be able to identify the influences of Greco-Latin culture in Portuguese authors from different periods.
4 - Develop the ability to establish links between Portuguese culture and Greek-Latin culture.
Syllabus:
1 - Introduction.
1.1 - Reception in Classical Antiquity.
1.2 - Cultural and literary transmission.
1.3 - Processes of translation and rewriting.
2 - Reception.
2.1 - Theorising the reception of the classics.
2.2 - Literary genres: mimesis, hybridisation and transformation.
2.3 - Rhetoric and style.
2.4 - Themes (love, hero, landscapes, spaces, travelling, war, etc.).
2.5 - Myth.
3 - Reception in Portuguese Literature: case studies. A selection of Portuguese literature authors from the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education and Secondary School study programme [Teaching Portuguese (7-12)].

Classification Type: Quantitativa (0-20)
Evaluation Methodology:
The methodology is centered on the presentation and discussion of the syllabus content. Additionally, based on the literary texts, students should be able to develop argumentative skills through classroom interventions and preparation for written and oral assessments. They should seek information to enhance their understanding of the topics analyzed in class, with the guidance of the professor. Assessment consists of a written work (50%) and an oral presentation (50%).
