Ageo - Platform for Atlantic Geohazerd Risk Management

We proudly and enthusiastically received the European Commission's announcement that the AGEO project (Platform for Atlantic Geohazard Risk Management), in which the University of Madeira is a partner, has been selected as a finalist for the REGIOSTARS 2025 awards.

AGEO brings together scientists, local communities and policy makers in a platform that allows users to report and access information on events and explore educational content on geological risks in Atlantic regions, supporting increased preparedness and awareness for risk scenarios such as landslides, seismic activity, floods and coastal erosion and therefore, reducing vulnerability.

In Madeira, the pilot project developed tools and methodologies to engage communities and schools in geological risk management, including the implementation of a School Station Network in several secondary schools in the region. This network provides real-time information and fosters a sense of belonging to a knowledgeable and proactive community.

The Madeira pilot project counted on the participation of the University of Madeira team (Professors Domingos Rodrigues, Paulo Silva Lobo, João Martins and Fátima Gouveia) and the Civil Protection Unit of Funchal City Council, whose contribution was essential for the development of the activities, benefiting from their extensive experience working with the community and schools, based on an inclusive and effective strategy.

This European project is competing in the Green Europe category and aims to be the winner in the public vote!
