Overall objectives:

1 - Aims:
1.1 - Understand the development of education over time.
1.2 - Analyse the main pedagogical ideas from Antiquity to the early twentieth century.
1.3 - Reflect on Education as a practice of human existence.
2 - Skills and Competencies:
2.1 - The student should be able to fit historically (specific skills in the scientific field) education theories.
2.2 - The student must identify the pedagogical theories from antiquity to the contemporary era.
2.3 - The student should relate ethical practice and education as the foundation of human existence (general powers of the ethical and sociocultural).

1 - History of Education: purpose, sources, facts construction and objectives within the course.
2 - Classical Antiquity and the origins of pedagogy: the two educational models - Sparta and Athens
3 - The Christian tradition - The Master in Saint Augustine
4 - Education in the Middle Ages
5 - The Renaissance
6 - The Reformation and the Counter-Reformation
7 - The education of the seventeenth century - The Enlightenment
8 - French Revolution and Industrial Revolution
9 - Nihilism and Eric´s Weil perspective of Education

Classification Type: Quantitativa (0-20)

Evaluation Methodology:
- Cooperative work that requires the creation of a project, then transfigured into a formal work, which will be defended in the lecture-seminars (50%). - Dialogical method that meets the analytical method to deductive and reflective skills, discursive dexterity to use the language both an oral and written (50%).
