Overall objectives:

1 - Understanding the concepts and tools in the field of antennas and propagation. Developing skills of design of antenna arrays and study the phenomena of electromagnetic wave propagation in understanding the physical transmission of signals.
2 - Knowledge of the phenomenon of radiation of antennas and the main features that characterize them.
3 - Know to apply the theory electromagnetic to the analysis of antennas and arrays.
4 - Understanding the process of wave propagation in guided media.
5 - Understanding the process of wave propagation in non-guided media.
6 - An ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
7 - Use of appropriate equipment to the area of antennas and propagation and simulation software tools.
8 - Develop soft skills, such as ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering, teamwork, and ability to communicate effectively.

Syllabus:

1 - Basics of antennas; Maxwell's equations; resolution of equations of the potentials; electric dipole; parameters for antennas.
2 - Fourier Relation; small complex translation theorem Fourier; Fourier relation; radiation patterns in function of the spatial variables and symmetries.
3 - Analysis of antennas and arrays; linear antennas; aperture antenna; impedance matching.
4 - Propagation of electromagnetic waves in dielectric media and conductors; reflection of waves.
5 - Transmission lines; Smith diagrams; S parameters.
6 - Rectangular and circular waveguides; optical fiber waveguides.
7 - Propagation in the atmosphere: propagation in free space; antennas on a earth; diffraction; superficial propagation; tropospheric propagation; dispersive propagation; ionospheric propagation.
