Undergraduate Degree in Psychology

The cycle of studies of the Undergraduate degree in Psychology has as its main goal the global and integrated comprehension of human behaviour. It is structured in 6 semesters (three academic years), being the undergraduate title awarded to those who complete 180 ECTS.
The scientific study of psychology at the undergraduate level allows the acquisition of knowledge and the development of competences of several domains, namely basic psychological processes (e.g. development, cognition, emotion, personality, motivation), models and theories of psychological intervention, foundations of research in psychology, areas and contexts of psychological intervention, processes and instruments of psychological evaluation.

Career Opportunities and Employability

The competences promoted during this undergraduate degree enable:
The development of professional activity in the areas of psychosocial, educational and communal intervention, health and/or human relations, done in contexts and services of public administration (e.g. city halls, parish councils), community centres, centres of scientific research, reception centres, nursing homes, etc.;
The access to a vocational master’s degree in Psychology (with a curricular internship in the area), required to be admitted to the “Portuguese Psychologists’ Order/association” (“Ordem dos psicólogos portugueses”) and to be able to exercise as a psychologist;
Access to a master’s degree in fields related to psychology (as long as allowed by the degree’s specific conditions).

Candidates

This degree is aimed at those interested in the study of human behaviour and its engagement. Candidates may apply via the National Higher Education Access Contest providing they successfully passed one of the required admission exams. Candidates may also enrol via special regimes such as course/institution transfer, through one of the Special Contests in force or the Interntional Student Statute.
